An echo(回聲)came back across the distance. Again I called. This time followed by a wolf call from about a half-mile away. Then, far off,I saw a dark shape moving slowly in my direction. As it approached to me, I could see it was the wolf. An unusual feeling spread through my whole body. I knew at once that familiar shape, even after four years. “Hello, old girl,” I called gently. The wolf got closer, and stopped a few yards off, her tail swayed slightly.
Moments later, the wolf was gone. I left Kupreanof Island a short time after that, and I never saw the animal again. But the memory she left with me—vivid—will always be there, a reminder that there are things in nature that exist outside the laws and understanding of man. We can only accept them and—because they’re with an air of mystery and strangeness—perhaps treasure them all the time. I feel lucky to have an animal friend.

I locked the front door and invited them to the changing room. I spent the next three hours taking photos of this kid in every princess costume I have in my closet. She was the sweetest, most well-behaved kid I had ever worked with. Once we were done, she lay on the couch in my office and fell asleep while I loaded up the photos for her mum to see and choose the ones she liked best.
The other thanked me over and over and came up front, holding out her credit card. I refused to accept it, say: “I feel very honored to take a photo of such a lovely angel. I’m not taking money for this, but I hope you can allow me to put one of her photos in our showcase, because she has the most beautiful and warmest smile. Many years later that photo of a sick little girl on a giant pink unicorn is still in a frame in my shop, always reminding me to show kindness to those who really need it.

My daughter was waiting for my reply. I was secretly very worried. But my daughter kept begging me and I could not bear to reject her. Bravery was the most significant quality that I wanted her to possess. Her curiosity was so strong that I couldn’t resist. I nodded slightly, and my daughter’s frowning face slowly broke into a smile. My response surprised my husband, who reacted with the wildest excitement as we walked towards the Skyway. When I stepped on it, I found myself horrified by the height. I grabbed the railing, almost unable to move.
Halfway across the bridge, I had to stop. My heart beat wildly, casting scared glances down the bridge. My husband and daughter held my hands tightly. I walked as though I were drunk. But their firm gaze built up my confidence and we kept going together. “Mom, look, it’s so beautiful.” What I saw there filled my soul with joy. The bay spread out far below me. Beyond it stood the tall and beautiful skyscrapers. I looked down at my little girl who taught her mother how to be brave, and breathed a sigh of relief.

My daughter was waiting for my reply. I looked at her, then at the Skyway. I felt my heart threatening to burst out from my chest. My husband, who was used to this kind of situation and understood how scared I was, consoled me. He said he could go with our little girl instead. But my daughter wouldn’t give up easily and shouted out her own encouragement. I plucked up my courage and took my first step onto the suspension bridge, then another, I inched forward, all the way holding on tight to the handrail.
Halfway across the bridge, I had to stop. I stood there, and my legs trembled despite my fruitless attempt to stay calm. Below the bridge, the treetops formed an ocean of green waves that threatened to devour me. Just then, I heard a familiar voice, and two little hands slipped into my arm. Looking down, I saw my little angel’s bright smile, encouraging me to finish the walk. Eventually, we reached the end together. My husband was surprised at my nerve, but I knew the reason I had felt so brave was for my little girl.

Alone on the long flight to Los Angeles, I was filled with doubts, as I had never lived with a strange family. How would I manage to live with people I had never met before? What if the host family I didn't get along? Would I fit in? I needn't have worried. From the first moment at the airport where they had come to receive me, I knew things would be all right. Their smiles and their words of welcome as they greeted me felt like a warm embrace. I could not have found a kinder, more generous family than theirs.
Para 2:
The kindness of the host family and Ken gave me all the practical and emotional support I needed to train in a swimming club of California. During my stay there, it was the mother of my host family who drove me to and from the training center every day. She could cook delicious food and she knew how to comfort me while I was homesick. The training was hard, yet it was Ken who always showed me concern and encouraged me to keep going. My swimming performance improved slowly but steadily. From those kind people I have learned generosity, love, and kindness.

Ricky handed me my yearbook and smiled really happy. I couldn’t help but smile back at him. Just at that moment, my mood changed completely. I had never expected to have any connection with a boy like him but felt something warm and touching in his smile. I gave him a huge hug. Suddenly everyone at my table wanted his signature. Soon, many people in the hall asked Ricky to sign in their yearbooks. His yearbook wasn't going unsigned, either. "You're cool, Ricky! " "Have a wonderful summer, Ricky! "and the like filled up the signature pages of his yearbook.
It was amazing, and Ricky was excited. His smile was so big that it lit up the hall. That's when I saw his special helper standing not very far away from the table. She was drying tears from her eyes and smiling. She looked at me and mouthed the words, “Thank you. ” I nodded to her, looked at Ricky and spoke softly, “Thank you, too. ” Honestly, I had never realised before that a small action could make such a difference. It was Ricky who taught me that.
